The timeline below shows mentions of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Volatility Index (VIX) since Jan. 1, 2014, showing its highest peak of the last 6 years was in Feb. 2018 and that thus far in 2020, despite a global pandemic, it has not surged.
Unsurprisingly, it is mentioned far more on business channels than general television news coverage, though Fox Business mentions it far less than its peers Bloomberg and CNBC.
