Notre Dame Fire Covered More On Television News Than Beirut Blast
Feature Charticle
When the Notre Dame cathedral caught fire last year, the destruction was broadcast live across the world, despite no known human casualties or destruction beyond the cathedral itself, which itself was salvageable.
Over the following four days, CNN mentioned the fire 705 times, Fox News 512 times and MSNBC 501 times, as seen in the timeline below, before the story disappeared by the end of the week.
In contrast, over the four days since a blast in Beirut killed more than 150, wounded more than 5,000 and left more than 300,000 homeless, CNN has mentioned the devastation just 368 times, MSNBC 265 times and Fox News 167, reminding us how geographically skewed news coverage is.
