#MeToo Interest Fading Away On Television News
The #MeToo movement was once everywhere in the news, seemingly bringing down another powerful figure each week. Yet since its rise in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s election, media coverage largely faded in November 2018, with only Fox News carrying the torch through August 2019 and little coverage since, using data from the Internet Archive's Television News Archive processed by the GDELT Project.
The timeline below shows the total monthly mentions of the movement across CNN, MSNBC and Fox News since September 2017.
Follow along with the latest numbers or deep dive on how television news is covering the #MeToo movement since the Tara Reade allegations.
Fox News has mentioned the movement 773 times to date, compared with 425 on MSNBC and just 311 on CNN.
The chart below breaks down what percentage of those mentions were on each television show across the three channels, with just under 13% of all mentions on The Ingraham Angle and Tucker Carlson Tonight alone, showing a strong trend towards personality-driven commentary shows.
